Agent Skills are folders that bundle instructions, scripts and resources so an AI agent can do a specific task the same way each time. This repository collected skills for OpenAI's Codex and follows the Agent Skills open standard.

Skills live in three folders. System skills install automatically with recent Codex. Curated and experimental skills are installed from inside Codex with the $skill-installer command, by name, by folder, or by GitHub directory URL. You restart Codex afterward so it picks up the new skills.

The README says this repository is deprecated. It points to the OpenAI Plugins repository for current skill and plugin examples, and to a Build plugins guide that covers making a skill-only plugin.

## What it does

- **Three skill tiers**: Skills are sorted into .system, .curated and .experimental folders. System skills come installed with the latest Codex.
- **Install from inside Codex**: The $skill-installer command installs curated skills by name. Experimental ones can be installed by naming the folder or giving a GitHub directory URL.
- **Skills as plain folders**: Each skill bundles instructions, scripts and resources, and carries its own LICENSE.txt in its directory.
- **Open standard format**: Skills follow the Agent Skills open standard at agentskills.io, with the aim of writing a skill once and using it in several agents.

## What you could build

- Browse example skills to see how a Codex skill folder is structured.
- Install a curated skill such as gh-address-comments into Codex.
- Try an experimental skill such as create-plan from its GitHub directory URL.
- Use it as a reference before building your own skill-only plugin for Codex.

## Who it's for

Codex users and skill authors who want to see how skills are packaged; it helps to know the Codex CLI first, and to check the newer OpenAI Plugins repository for current work.

## Get started

Inside Codex, run the skill-installer with a curated skill name, then restart Codex so the skill is picked up. Because the repository is deprecated, check the OpenAI Plugins repository first.

```
$skill-installer gh-address-comments
```
```
$skill-installer install the create-plan skill from the .experimental folder
```
```
$skill-installer install https://github.com/openai/skills/tree/main/skills/.experimental/create-plan
```
