AI coding tools cap usage in windows of a few hours, a week or a month. It is easy to start a long task and hit the limit halfway. CodexBar keeps those limits visible in the menu bar, with a countdown to each reset.

It runs as a menu bar app on macOS 14 or later, with no Dock icon. You get one icon per provider, or one merged icon with a switcher. It reads usage from each provider in whatever way that provider allows: OAuth, API keys, browser cookies, local files or the provider's own CLI. The README says no passwords are stored.

The README lists many providers, including Codex, Claude, Cursor, Gemini, Copilot, OpenRouter and Mistral. It also ships a command-line tool and a Qt 6 desktop app for Linux, and it polls provider status so incidents show up as badges on the icon.

## What it does

- **Usage windows and reset timers**: Shows session, weekly and monthly windows for each provider, with countdowns to the next reset.
- **Credits and spend**: Covers credit balances, Admin API spend dashboards, billing summaries and local cost scans where the provider exposes enough data.
- **Live provider status**: Polls provider status and shows incident badges in the menu and on the bar icon.
- **Reuses existing sign-ins**: Uses existing OAuth, device-flow, API-key, browser-cookie or local-file sessions instead of storing passwords.
- **CLI and Linux app**: A codexbar CLI enables providers and stores API keys from scripts. A Qt 6 desktop app covers Linux, with an Omarchy bar widget.

## What you could build

- Check how much of your Claude Code or Codex allowance is left before starting a long task.
- Track credit balances and spend across several AI providers from one place.
- Get notified of provider incidents without opening a status page.
- Script provider setup and API key storage on a new machine with the codexbar CLI.
- Watch usage limits on a Linux desktop using the Qt app or an Omarchy widget.

## Who it's for

Developers who pay for several AI coding tools and want to watch their limits; you should already be signed in to those tools on your machine.

## Get started

Install the app with Homebrew or download it from GitHub Releases (macOS 14+). Then open Settings → Providers, enable the providers you use, and sign in to their CLIs, browser sessions or API keys.

```
brew install --cask codexbar
