The Zapier SDK is an npm package that lets your code or AI agent call actions in apps like Notion, Gmail, Google Sheets and Airtable. Zapier holds the OAuth grants, so your code never touches a token. You log in once, create a connection per app, then run actions from TypeScript or the command line.

This repo is the companion material. It has a library of examples sorted by app, by domain and by pattern (such as notify-on-event, data-sync and lead-routing). Each example's action keys were checked against Zapier's live action list, so agents are less likely to invent method names.

It also ships a skill and a read-only explorer subagent for Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and GitHub Copilot CLI. The README names Zapier MCP as the alternative if you want an MCP server for tool calling. The SDK and CLI live in separate npm packages, and use of the Zapier service is governed by Zapier's own terms.

## What it does

- **Run actions through connections**: After you create a connection with the CLI, run-action calls an action in that app and returns JSON. Connections use OAuth that Zapier stores for you.
- **Examples in three indexes**: Examples are grouped by app, by domain and by automation pattern. The README says every action key was checked against listActions.
- **The zapier-sdk skill**: This skill teaches an agent how to authenticate, discover apps and actions at runtime, and what to use when no first-class action exists. It follows the agentskills.io format.
- **Read-only explorer subagent**: The zapier-sdk-explorer subagent looks up exact app, action and field IDs in the live catalog before your agent writes code.
- **Escape hatch for any HTTP API**: The README's architecture diagram shows sdk.fetch as a way to reach an API that has no ready-made action.

## What you could build

- Search Notion pages or Gmail messages from a script using an existing OAuth connection.
- Look up a Google Sheets row or an Airtable record by field value from the command line.
- Build a lead-routing or data-sync automation by starting from a pattern example.
- Give a coding agent the Zapier skill so it writes SDK code with correct action keys.
- Let a backend call a user's connected apps without storing their tokens.

## Who it's for

Developers building agents or backend automations who know basic npm and TypeScript and have a Zapier account.

## Get started

Install the SDK and CLI, log in with the CLI, then create a connection for an app (this opens a browser for OAuth). After that, run-action calls any action in that app.

```
npm install @zapier/zapier-sdk
npm install -D @zapier/zapier-sdk-cli @types/node typescript
```
```
npx zapier-sdk login
```
```
npx zapier-sdk create-connection notion
```
