Self-hostable AI email assistant that sorts your inbox and drafts replies

Email piles up, and most of it is routine: newsletters, cold pitches, messages waiting on a reply. Inbox Zero connects to your mailbox and uses an AI model to handle that routine work.

You write rules in plain English about how to treat certain mail. The assistant applies them to sort messages, drafts replies in your style, and tracks which emails need an answer and which are waiting on someone else. It also builds briefings before meetings from your email and calendar, and saves attachments to Google Drive or OneDrive. You can chat with it from Slack or Telegram.

The README calls it an open source alternative to Fyxer, with more customization and security. You can use the hosted version or self-host with Docker. It is a Next.js and TypeScript app with a Postgres database. The GitHub license field shows NOASSERTION, so check the license file before reusing the code.

What it does

  • AI rules and drafted replies

You describe in plain English how the assistant should handle your inbox. It can also pre-draft replies in your tone and style.

  • Reply Zero tracking

Tracks the emails you need to answer and the ones where you are waiting on someone else.

  • Bulk cleanup tools

A bulk unsubscriber, a bulk archiver for old mail, and a cold email blocker help clear out what you never read.

  • Meeting briefs and smart filing

Briefings pull context from your email and calendar before meetings. Attachments are saved automatically to Google Drive or OneDrive.

  • Slack and Telegram chat

You can talk to the assistant from Slack or Telegram to manage your inbox without opening your mail app.

What you could build

  • Write plain-English rules that label and archive newsletters and other routine mail.
  • Self-host an email assistant so your mail data stays on infrastructure you control.
  • Track which emails still need your reply and which are waiting on others.
  • Unsubscribe from senders you never read and bulk archive old messages.
  • Explore a Next.js, Prisma and Postgres codebase for an AI product, using the local demo mode.

Get started

Install Docker and Node.js v24 or newer, then run the setup wizard and start the containers, and open localhost:3000. For development, clone the repo and run pnpm local:start for a demo mode that needs no OAuth credentials or AI keys, though AI responses are canned.
