Many Android and Google TVs ship with sponsored rows, analytics services and preloaded apps on the home screen. This project gives a coding assistant such as Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI a prompt and reference lists so it can clean up your TV for you.
It works through the Android debug bridge (ADB). You turn on USB debugging in the TV's developer options and allow your computer once. The assistant backs up the package list and settings, disables unwanted packages with pm disable-user, and installs a small native launcher as the default home. Nothing is uninstalled, so a restore script can undo each step.
Bloat differs by brand, so the assistant discovers what is on your TV and asks before touching anything you might use. Contributors have added tested lists for many models, one folder each in the examples directory.
What it does
Reversible debloat
Telemetry, ad services, content rows and preloaded apps are disabled, not removed. A backup is taken first and a one-line restore is provided.
Assistant-driven setup
You paste PROMPT.md into your coding assistant and answer a checklist about apps, dock size and whether to keep the voice assistant. It checks each step with screenshots pulled from the TV.
Apple TV-style launcher
A black home screen with a four-app dock, a top shelf with an ambient glow, an app grid, and buttons for inputs, network and settings. It also includes a clock screensaver.
Themes and module cards
Themes change colours, wallpaper, dock and columns without a rebuild. Module cards let other apps add a tile, only with your permission.
Community device lists
Tested lists from contributors cover many TV brands, including TCL, Sony, Xiaomi, Philips and Hisense, plus some projectors and Fire TV devices.
What you could build
- Remove sponsored rows and analytics services from a family member's Google TV.
- Replace a cluttered stock home screen with a simple dock and app grid.
- Back up your TV's package list and restore it if something breaks.
- Add a tested debloat list for your TV model to the examples folder.
- Change the launcher's colours, wallpaper or dock size with a theme.
Get started
On the TV, press OK on Build seven times in About, then turn on USB debugging in Developer options. On your computer, paste PROMPT.md into your coding assistant, fill in your TV model, accept the USB debugging prompt on the TV and answer its checklist. The README says it takes about fifteen minutes.
Commands are copied from the project's README. Read it on GitHub for the full setup.
