Desktop app that records your screen activity and writes your work journal and tickets

Most people can't say exactly what they did last Tuesday, and writing standups or ticket updates by memory is slow and often wrong. Meridian runs in the background, captures screen activity, and rebuilds each day as a timeline you can scrub back through.

At the end of the day it summarises what you finished and what pulled you off plan. It also drafts a standup and a worklog update for your tickets. You review the draft and approve it before anything is posted to Jira.

Your activity is stored in one encrypted database on your own machine. Analysis goes through whichever AI provider you connect, and only what a summary needs is sent. The app is written in Rust with a Tauri tray, and the README names macOS on Apple Silicon and Windows 10/11 as the supported platforms.

What it does

  • Day reconstruction

Rebuilds your day from screen activity so you can scrub back through it like a recording.

  • Daily summary

Lists what you got done, what pulled you off plan, and a standup ready to paste into Jira.

  • Drafted worklog updates

Writes the worklog update and ticket text, then waits for your approval before posting to Jira.

  • Searchable history

Saves every day, so you can look up what you worked on months ago or see where an estimate went wrong.

  • Local, encrypted storage

Keeps activity in an encrypted database on your machine and prunes older capture after 30 days. Diagnostics are opt-out.

What you could build

  • Generate a standup each morning from what you actually did the day before.
  • Draft Jira worklog updates and review them before posting.
  • Look back at what you were working on on a given day months ago.
  • Find out why a task took five days when the estimate was two.
  • Check where your hours go across a week.

Get started

Most people can download the app from the project's website and install it. To build from source, you need Rust, Node 20+ and bun: clone the repo, copy the example env file, run the install script, then start the dev script, which opens the daemon and the tray in watch mode.

git clone https://github.com/Meridiona/meridian
cp .env.example .env
bash install-dev.sh

Commands are copied from the project's README. Read it on GitHub for the full setup.
