Many AI note-takers join your call as a bot and send audio to a server. DoodleNote works from your side instead. It captures your microphone and the call audio on your computer, so it works with any meeting app.
Transcription runs on the device. On Apple Silicon it uses a Swift engine built on FluidAudio, and on Windows it uses a packaged local speech engine. Notes can be generated with a downloaded local model or with your own provider key. Audio stays on your machine.
Cloud features are opt-in. Hosted Sync uploads the meeting content you choose, but not the recordings, and costs $10 per user per month. The local app is free and needs no account. The repo also holds a Next.js web workspace, an iPhone app still in development, and a read-only MCP server for AI tools.
What it does
No bot in the call
Captures your microphone and the other side of the call from your own computer, so it works with any meeting app.
On-device transcription
Transcribes both sides locally, with editable speaker labels and timestamps.
Notes from transcript and rough notes
Produces a summary with decisions, action items, owners and the next meeting. Your original notes stay available.
Ask questions about meetings
Ask about the open meeting and get answers based on its notes and transcript. You can also search history and organize meetings into folders.
Opt-in read-only MCP server
Lets compatible AI tools search your local notes and transcripts, but only if you turn it on.
What you could build
- Record a video call and get a summary with decisions and action items.
- Keep a private, searchable archive of meeting transcripts on your own machine.
- Ask an AI assistant over MCP to find what was decided in past meetings.
- Self-host the Sync server to share notes across devices on your own infrastructure.
- Run note generation with a local model so no meeting content leaves your computer.
Get started
Most people can download the installer from doodlenote.ai (macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon, or Windows 10/11 beta). To build from source, install Node.js 22 and pnpm, then build the Mac engine and start the desktop app.
corepack enablepnpm install --frozen-lockfilepnpm engine:buildCommands are copied from the project's README. Read it on GitHub for the full setup.
